The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is in the process of adopting an agency wide Project Program Management (PPM) software system. This PPM system will enable the state to plan and execute with greater accuracy in their Capital Letting Program. In addition, it will offer greater transparency for the public and local constituents who desire to see where the funds are being used for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
To date, Region 3 (Syracuse), Region 4 (Rochester), Region 5 (Buffalo) have implemented Primavera Enterprise Project Portfolio Management. Poughkeepsie is the fourth region being trained and mentored on this new system. Poughkeepsie expects to up and running with this new system by May 22nd. After the completion of this software rollout, they can sunset their existing legacy systems.
The Challenge:
Various applications ranging from legacy Project Management tools to individual support systems (Database and Spreadsheets). Eleven Regions developing a system that will work for their specific region while establishing a framework for the NYSDOT agency to gradually develop their project management maturity.
The Solution:
SUB3 and Primavera/Oracle consultants are implementing the Enterprise Project Portfolio Management (PPM) solution agency wide. The rollout plans for the team of consultants to be onsite for two weeks at all eleven regional offices and main office. Each Region will have at least 2 dedicated Administration Support personnel. The Administration role will be broken up on the Technical and Policy/Process side. One week of the rollout will be spent conducting role based trained to personnel from Planning and Design. The second week will be spent coaching and mentoring the users.
